ABOUT ME

I'm John, welcome to my page. My favorite thing to do is speaking with, learning from, and working with motivated and inspired people from all walks of life. Being a client to a coach has gotten me to where I am today and so here I am paying it forward. I currently work with talented and successful clients who work hard to improve their situations in life. If we say yes to choosing each other as client and coach you and I will learn amazing things about ourselves and the world around us. I want to learn and be inspired by you just as much, or more, as you should want from me.

Helping Others Gain Insight Brings Me Energy

I grew up in a small town in Northern California, splitting my time between the little city with my mom and my dad's farm in the country. Even with my humble beginnings I have always been a leader. In high school I was in the Junior ROTC program and rose to the rank of Cadet Colonel and cadet commander of my unit by the time I graduated. I started working at Carl's Jr. at 16 and became a crew leader. So, flippin' burgers, shoveling... stalls, and school kept me pretty busy as a kid.  As soon as high school ended I left for US Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. I completed my six-year tour and left the Navy as the supervisor of my work center. From there I became a DoD contractor doing a great deal lot of technical work, leading teams, and completing massive software installations/upgrades aboard US Navy ships. After nine years of that I was lucky enough to be hired as a federal employee with Naval Information Warfare Center - Pacific (DoN research and development laboratory) and have been with them ever since. I've held various leadership roles managing 20-250 people. I currently manage over 200 people and coach highly successful leaders both in and out of my organization. In each of these roles I’ve brought leadership, thoughtfulness, and provided guidance. I am known for building relationships and trust, caring for people, and providing space to gain insight and grow.

Ok, enough about all of that. The key take away from above is the parts of each of those experiences I enjoyed the most were the parts that involved interactions with people. I flourish in that space. I enjoy getting things done for and with people, seeing them succeed, and helping them succeed on their own. About four years ago I was given the opportunity to work with a leadership coach and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. The insight I gained about myself has been incredibly valuable. I have become more self-aware, confident in my abilities, more willing to take professional risks, and be open and vulnerable in many aspects of my life. My coach didn't do that FOR me, she helped ME discover my own blockers, set goals, expand my knowledge, most importantly, she kept me accountable.

Somewhere along the way my coach said she thought I would make a great coach. I hesitated, I had self-limiting beliefs and inner critics chirping, I looked for excuses to say no. She coached me by asking powerful questions and gaining insight. I realized this is something I must do. So I did. I got some training, picked up some clients, and here I am, loving every minute of it.

Let's gain insight together!
